Calendar Girls - November

Christmas!  Really?!?!   This past month just flew by.   So fittingly enough when I use one of my go-to phrases Holy Night, it just does not seem right to say this month.   So Holy Smokes, I cannot believe it is already Christmas!

The Calendar Girls are going to turn it out for you this month and share a Christmas card and a bonus feature.  The feature being a picture of their card making process.   Before I get to the bonus feature, I must regress a bit for explanation.

As you may know, I am fortunate enough to have a group of girls that I make Christmas cards with each year.   We plan our cards very early in the year.  In fact, usually shopping right after Christmas to ensure that we get the best deals on our supplies, as we each make around 80 to 120 cards.

There are five of us.  We are a little crazy.  We rent a house at the beach each year and spend a three day weekend.  We shop, eat seafood, drink wine and make a whole lotta cards.   We do all of this in October, so we are not rushed and it is DUN!

I had not thought of taking a photo of all of our cards.   We are quite the sight.   An average of 500 cards on a dining table.   We have done this for enough years, that we have a pretty smooth system.   Well, except for the year of the pigment ink drying...or the glitter fest....

This year those silly girls made a joke on me.   I had made a comment that one of the girl's pajamas were the same color as her card last year, by accident.  Well, if all the other girls did not have matching pajamas to their cards this year.   It was like crafting with models from a Creating Keepsake photo shoot!

With that said, my picture is of my completed cards, yes, at home.  I do not know what I was thinking with nine layers (two inside), one snowflake and rhinestone to boot!  The photos do not show well, but the shimmer paper is really pretty.

I do hope that you have time to check out all of the Calendar Girls blog posts.  Their blog links are on the right sidebar under Calendar Girls.

Hoping you have a great Holiday Season!

Mystery Challenge Swap - November

I am so lucky to be a part of the Mystery Challenge Swap!  It is a great group of girls from SCS, who swap mystery images every other month.   Thank you to Barb, our hostess this round, for a great image and fun swap.

I do not know what has gotten into me this past month, but I kept thinking that I had so much time for this swap.  Well um, I didn't!   I actually had my cards in the works for quite some time, but needed to finish them up.

I was bored at Lowe's while DH shopped one day and grabbed some paint chips.  I used them for the upper left panel and snowflake.  They worked pretty good.  Although I felt like I was stealing taking six of each.  I asked the paint guy if I could pay for them.   He looked at me like I was Home Depot Nuts!

All this winter card making makes me want to get some cute boots!  It rarely snows here, but I think that these Coach boots would be perfect with my parka.  Kinda girly with the faux fur, and super cute with the patent leather look.   Much better than my boy looking Columbia boots.   Something to think about!  ;)

Here is Prescott from Whipper Snapper.  He is a doll and was so fun to work with.  I cannot wait to see what the other mystery swappers have in store for us.

Have a great day!

Dueling Darlings - November

Oh the duel we had this month!  Welcome to it.   It was a fun time.  Our Diva hostess was, Miss Kelly.  She put it all out there on this one!   Have you ever seen the show Chopped on Food Network?  I felt like I opened the mystery basket!  The kit may have been eclectic, but so generous.  Thank you, Kelly.

You are going to want to visit all of the Dueling Darlings this month, to see what they have created.  Their blog links are located on the right sidebar of this page.  We have a guest joining us this month!  Please also stop by Janet's blog.

When I received my kit, I quickly opened it in the kitchen and put the goodies out on the counter.   You have to love DH, as he is quick with the one liners.   For example he looked at the kit and said, "Nothing matches."!  Then he looks at the image and said "Where are her feet?".   I think he looks for these things ever since he realized that the Magnolia images have no mouths.   You KNOW what is coming next.   He asked as he poured some orange juice, "Are you going to use the Cuttlebug?".  God, love that man.

Here is the kit that we received.....I did group the papers by the company, as we had to use one paper from each company.

Our next challenges were to use only items from the kit, to use the entire footless image, incorporate the gingerbread man and the candy cane twine.

I was able to use five of the papers.  You may not be able to tell from the photo, but the outfit on the image is paper pieced and is one of the five papers.  I feel like I cheated a wee bit, but the twine is on the gingerbread man in his button holes.  I changed his color and it inked the twine, so you cannot see it too well.   Here is the final outcome.

As for the last challenge, it was to post a picture of what not to wear.   All I can say is I am speechless when I look at http://www.peopleofwalmart.com/.  Oh. My. Goodness.

Last, a quick little story.   I am taking the photo of my card for the challenge.   The card falls off the table onto the floor.   Our kitten Mia, is there just ready to take it over.  I think she wanted the gingerbread man!  She did this all by herself.

I laughed so hard!  It looks as if Mia is a bit shy.   Here is a picture of our blanket loving girl.

Hope you all have a great day!
