Calendar Girls 2

Happy Monday!   The blog group Calendar Girls has their second reveal today.   Please take a few minutes to check out all of the Girls' posts today.  Their blog links are located to the right in the sidebar titled Calendar Girls.   You will be amazed at their creativity, as am I.

Our February theme was created by Miss Kelly or aka Miss February.  The challenge was to create a card that represents your style of dress in which you would wear to a grand ball.   The other criterions were to have something with your favorite color and a shape.

I have to admit that I was a bit perplexed at what to create.   I had an idea that formulated to the point of picking up a great pearl paper especially for the card, to only start to create the card and did a total 360° turn!

I know it sounds crazy, but my favorite color changes.   I consistently always like black.  No, I am not Goth!  It is just a basic color and most everything goes with it.  You know, the perfect black dress, suit, shoe, or 'I got up late so will wear all black so I do not have to decide on anything' (you know that you have had that kind of morning!).  So, I decided that my favorite featured color would be black.

As for a dress well, I really am not a foofy girl.  I would be more your amazing looking simple dress that looks well made and in a perfect world is way comfortable!  Said dress would probably be purchased at a great boutique.

Along with the 'I really am not a foofy girl' theme, I am not really not a pink girl either.  Not that I am opposed to the color, it just seems that I do not use it or wear it much.   I maybe own three pink clothing items, so the fact that there is so much pink on my card is just how it came together...think 360° again!

As I went to create the original idea for my card, I remembered that I received a greeting card that had a great little boutique scene.  At the time I saved the card front, as I thought of my girlfriend who sells CAbi (Carol Anderson by Invitation) clothing.  I wanted to create a cute card that she would love and pink and black are CAbi's themed colors.  If you have not checked out their clothing, do!  They have great items and quality.  I love me some CAbi!

So my little cheat, was that we did not have to use 'the dress' literally, but it just looked so cute on here that I did.   It would be so me to have matching handbag and shoes.   I thought the little shopping bag was so cute, tissue and all!   Of course if I could choose, the pearls would be from Mikimoto

The card stock is basic black.  I used pink scrap card stock to accent.  It does not show well in the picture, but the white layers are a pearled paper.  I used a scalloped edge punch for a decorative edge.  My shape is square, as I can be a bit square at times, but the rounded edges hopefully make me not too geeky!  I added three eyelets, some ribbons and here is the finished card.   I hope it fares well at the ball!

Mystery Challenge Swap For February

Here we are with our second Mystery Challenge Swap.   A group of great girls on the SCS site are in our mystery swap.  We swap cards every other month.  One person sends out an image and can send out a little sumpin' sumpin' with the image too.  From there, we all create a card with those same items.  It is fun to see how different everyone's cards can be from the same basics.

This round our hostess was, Gael.  We were sent a great image from Artful Inkables titled Think Big.  I love that we had a cute little cat to go with!  The sentiment I chose to use is from Stampin' UP! Hearts and Posies, circa 2002.

I attempted to create a wall and floor scene, with the DP being similar to wallpaper and ran the brown cardstock through the Cuttlebug using the Tim Holtz Wood embossing folder.

I enjoyed our challenge this round.  I love to read and working with this cute image was perfect.  Thanks, for taking the time to check out our Mystery Challenge.

Dueling Darlings Guest

There are a group of girls on the SCS site that come together monthly to create and have a lot of fun with a creative duel of cards. The group is named the Dueling Darlings.   From the collaborative group, they have divided into individual teams.   The individual teams are known as the Dazzlers and the Divas.

Every month there is a different hostess from each team.   The two hostesses decide upon a common theme and then the duel begins!   Each hostess creates a card kit for their team and distributes it.   From there each team has the same theme, but different kits to create from, thus the duel.    Both teams have a specified date to post their dueling card.   It is so fun to see how the two card kits differ.  As well as within a given group with the same card kit, the different outcomes of the final project.

I was fortunate enough to have been asked to be a guest on the Diva team for the month of February!  How lucky am I?!

I received my card kit from, Jamie.  It was full of the February theme of love.  The quote Jamie sent with her kit was:  "I have decided to stick with love.  Hate is too great a burden to bear."   Martin Luther King, Jr.

So with a little love in mind, I went to work!   I had a totally fab kit to work with.   There were so many items; I could not use them all.   I tried to put as much on as possible though!!!

I know, so not super original, but I thought with the theme of love, I would start with an 'L' on the card.  The image is from Inkadinkado, Animal Hearts.   I chalked the image and used Crystal Effects and Stickles to accent it.   There were four different types of DP, so I tried to incorporate them all.....even the little DP from the kit topper.   I do hope that I did the kit some justice.

I had a great time being a guest and am thankful to have been asked.   Please check out the other wonderful creations from the Dazzlers and Divas at the links below.

TLC Tulips

Quick card alert!  I needed to make a quick card.   Now how could that be, when I do this for a hobby?  You would think that I would have the perfect card, but no, nothing but making something new would do!

I remembered a pretty digi stamp I received from Create with TLC.  I really like tulips and thought that the image would work well for the occasion that I was sending the card for.

I colored the image with Prismacolor pencils.  I then sponged ink to soften the white cardstock around the image. All of the cardstock is derived from my scrap pieces (yay).   I used the Victoria Cuttlebug embossing folder.  I then made some quick cuts, tied a bow and it was outta here!

Thanks, for taking a minute to check out my little blog post.  I hope that you have a good day!
