Dueling Darlings - July

It's DDD time.....not Diners Drive-ins and Dives the show on the Food Network, but the Dueling Dazzlers and Divas!   Although we have a food theme this round.    It is summer and it is time to grill!   Grilling will be our theme this month.

Darlene is the hostess for the Dazzlers and I am the hostess for the Divas.   I had the perfect stamp in mind that was gifted to me from our very own, Barb!   It is Grill Sergeant from Whipper Snapper.   He is a cute and rotund little guy!  I colored him up with some Copic markers.  The sentiment is from Kolette Hall...aka the dollar bin at Michael's!

The DP I chose to use is from We R Memory Keepers.   The card stock base is takin' a stroll back in time to Sage Shadow from Stampin' UP!  I also used a recycled netting from some organic shallots.  Sssshhh don't tell!

We asked the DDD's to share a favorite recipe in their blog post that you would use for a picnic or barbecue.   Now here I am asking for recipes as the hostess and I am having trouble coming up with one!  I am not so much a recipe kinda girl.   I just put in a little of this and that and don't keep track!  For crying out loud!  What was I thinking?!  LOL   We went to a barbecue recently and my friend made a really good lemon coconut cake, so you know who I called!!!!

Lemon Coconut Cake

1 small box lemon jello
1 box lemon cake mix
4 eggs
1 1/4C water
3/4 C vegetable oil

Beat above items for 2 minutes.  Bake in greased 9 x 13 pan at 350 degrees for 40 minutes.
Five minutes prior to cake being fully baked mix the following items:

2 1/2 C powdered sugar
3 1/2 Tbsp lemon juice

When cake is baked and immediately out of the oven, poke the entire cake with a fork and let cool for 5 to 10 minutes.  After cooling, drizzle powdered sugar mixture over entire cake.  Sprinkle with sweetened coconut flake to taste and enjoy!

I do hope that you all have a few chances to gather with family and friends this summer to enjoy your time together.   Please visit all of the DDD's.  Their blog links are on the right side bar.

Grill on!!!

Tami, your card is sooooooo cute! Love the softer colors and the fabulous layout. And that image... you chose a great one to use! What a fun duel this month!!!

Your recipe sounds interesting. I'm not usually a fan of lemon "sweet" things but the coconut has convinced me to try your recipe. Soon!

Such a cute card. I love the sketch, color scheme and embellishments. So going to try your cake recipe...but will have to start walking 12 miles a day after eating it, instead of 6.

Awesome card from a Fantastic kit, Tami! Love your color scheme with the sage green being the predominant color accented with blue, yellow and white! Your WhipperSnapper grill master is the cutest and you've colored and cut him out perfectly!! Oh, did I mention the great layout?!? Super way to showcase the terrific elements from this kit, especially the recycled net!!!

Your Lemon Coconut Cake sounds delish. I may have to make this one but will probably have to skip the coconut as the men is my family won't eat it! I love anything with lemon and love coconut too.

Thanks again for giving the Divas such an awesome card kit!!!

Thanks for a great kit to play with this round. I forgot that I gave you that stamp--too funny that I do not have it myself!

I think it is perfect that you cut out your image--that was great with the paper.

I think your recipe sounds wonderful!

Ok, my friend, I'll have to be stealing this layout/sketch for future use! Adding the red burlap from a bag of shallots is genius! I have to say that you really colored him exceptionally well. I need lessons, LOL

As usual, I had a great time hosting this round with you. Let's keep the team together next time!!

I owe you some images from my kit to play with, those are late, but still coming your way! Thanks for sending some of the Sergeant to me!

Hugs!
