Calendar Girls - March

The Calendar Girls have a challenge this month!  April, is our hostess this month and she gave us a multi-faceted challenge.

I am so in the dark on some things!   Do you know that there are color and sketch challenges on SCS?!  I know, where have I been? Yeah, well April knows!  She challenged us to use one color and one sketch on the same card. We could choose from three predetermined numbers based on our birth date. I chose my birth month (09) for the color portion and my birth day (17) for the sketch portion.

I have to admit that I was not thrilled with the color combinations.  I opted for 09, Ruby Red and Sage Shadow as my color choices.   My other option would have been Close to Cocoa and Tempting Turquoise.   That choice bugged me, as the brown was not dark enough and the turquoise was too bright when paired together.   I will go on in my admission, that the more I worked on my card the more I really like the colors together.

I went way old school!   Since the color and sketch were circa 2005, I decided it was going to be an all out blast from the past.  I even put on old music to craft to.

I used Stampin' UP! Ruby Red and Sage Shadow as per the challenge.  Both colors are now retired and both of which I still have!  LOL   I had to free hand the sketch swish.  I cut it with scissors.  Sssshhhh...I added the little strip of Ruby Red that is not on the sketch as it looked really bare on that side and I couldn't help myself.

I decided I was going to use Stampin' UP! stamps too.   I used two older than dirt sets that I have.   I chose my stamps so that I would have to old school stamp, no coloring *gasp*.   I used my colored stamp pads and markers.  They still had ink.  Score!

I used my Stampin' UP! punches for the sentiment.   I really was jonesin' to use my Cuttlebug, but remember we did not have them back in 2005.

I even had a Ruby Red button for cripe sake!   Now the ribbons are not Stampin' UP!   The pretty ribbon at the bottom that looks very Sage Shadow, was a gift from one of my CG's.  The ribbon that looks very Ruby Red, was from the dollar bin from American Crafts that I dug out of my stash.

I have to say, that it was fun to create like I used to in the past.   Try it!  I think you will find the same to be true.  I am working to use more of what I have before purchasing new.  The possibilities are endless!

Okay, so a little off topic, but usually when I am making cards I am listening to Pandora or iTunes. Remember, I am listening old school this round.  So, I am almost done with my card and here comes a song on Pandora.   It is well before my listening time, but it made me giggle thinking that we almost all have that one boy we left in the dust!  Thought you might want to think of yours too. Just think of him sitting listening to this song!   LOL

Okay, back to business!   Please be sure and visit all of the Calendar Girls. Their blog links are on the right side bar. Thanks, for stopping by.    Have a great day!

OH sweetie, you just gave my old heart a jump! I thought I forgot to post, lol! And happy to see you are just starting us off with this beauty - better early than never or late, right?! This is a stunning card - both in color and design! LOVE the bold flower as the focal point, followed with these scrumptious colors! You got lucky with the colors, I see!

Love your card, wonderfully crafted, and so glad you are a CG!

Tami, your card may be old school, as you described it, but it's also amazingly beautiful! I think the colors go very nicely together (who woulda thunk it, right?) and that flower you used is awesome! Very nice choice of sketch, too!

Love the way you handled April's challenge!
